Some good showings recently might have pushed Arsenal up there at 3 in the League table, but, Arsene Wenger, the boss, is quite aware of the fact that his team has no chance of going even close to the trophy and he has gracefully admitted that.
However, Wenger must try and make his team finish as runners up. That is also not an easy task though as Manchester City, the current second position holder, is 4 points ahead, but, because City seems to have begun going down the curve off late, the Gunners can fancy their chances of overcoming them at some point of time.
Things are actually very tricky at the moment in the table. Apart from Chelsea and City (to some extent), no team is a certainty for Champions League qualification.
Apart from the Gunners, the Red Devils, the Spurs and the Saints are in frame as well and there would be a ferocious battle between these teams for two positions in top 4.
Wenger is quite wily. He has spent years after years in the English top flight. Having seen it all, he knows that he can’t make the mistake of getting too far ahead of himself.
In an interview yesterday, Wenger said, “We are not even thinking about the League trophy as it’s not in our reach as things stand right now. We are only focussed on what’s ahead. We are being chased by a lot of teams and we can’t give them any sort of sniff. We are just looking to be consistent and see where we end up. There’s no target in mind. We are going to take it game by game.”
The Gunners have played a game lesser than the table toppers Chelsea and are trailed by 9 points to them.
