Arsenal are emerging to be one of the surprise contenders for the title this season, despite managing to lose the opening game of the campaign against Aston Villa. The club started the season with a lot of negativity, which escalated after the 3-1 defeat against Villa on the opening day. However, since then, they have been able to turn down the campaign due to several factors. Unlike in past seasons, Arsenal have been showing a lot of resilience, which has helped them win matches that would have otherwise been lost in the past. However, the signing of Mesut Ozil has also added a new dimension to Arsenal.
The midfielder was signed from Real Madrid for £ 42 million, which is a new transfer record for the club. This has finally stopped the criticism about Wenger being reluctant to spend money. Ozil has made a great start to his Arsenal career by assisting a lot of goals already for his new team. Arsenal are currently top of the table with 12 points, which is the same as Tottenham. They already have several points advantage over the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City. Even though they have made a great start, Wenger is remaining conscious and has said that home form is key if they are to challenge for the title.
“If you look at the numbers, away from home, we have been remarkably consistent. At home we want of course to create the same consistency. I believe we have a chance (to challenge for the title) and what is most important is that my full energy is to make sure we grab that chance. It is too early to say who will be in the fight, who will not be in the fight. You are a bit cautious because these days you are very quickly in a crisis,” said Wenger.
