Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny is not such a well-known or highly rated defender as others such as: Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique or Vincent Kompany but this has not stopped Arsene Wenger in voicing his thoughts concerning the vice-captain of his squad as the French manager stated that Koscielny is one of the best defenders in the world.

When it comes to winning individual awards or being included in the team of the season, this is something that Koscielny has never achieved but Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos had indeed accomplished as the Spanish defender was named as the best defender of La Liga in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Thiago Silva on the other hand has consistently been included in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year and in the UEFA Team of the Year as well.

These accomplishments are something that Laurent Koscielny has not been able to seal but Arsene Wenger is confident that Koscielny is one of the best players in the world in his position as the head coach of Arsenal has recently said:

“No one is indispensable, but he has taken on a new status with us. He has experience, self-confidence.He’s always had talent, and that hasn’t always been recognized in France because he left Lorient, not a big club. So he didn’t have the reputation he deserved. But he’s made his name in English football. I think he’s one of the best in the world.’’

Laurent Koscielny has consistently been making 25+ appearances for Arsenal in every single season since he joined the Premier League club back on July of 2010 and has turned into a key figure for Arsenal but to consider him as one of the best defenders in the world is something that might be hard to believe especially considering all of the top class defenders that are consistently making waves in Europe and lifting some of the biggest trophies in the world of football.
