Arsene Wenger said that he was disappointed with the defending of his team after they failed to hold the lead against Manchester City in the latest league encounter between the two teams at the Emirates stadium. Arsenal could only manage 2-2 draw, which was their third consecutive stalemate of the season, against the current champions. There were several positives during the encounter after Arsenal came from behind to have seemingly secure three points only for Martin Demichelis to come up with an equaliser in the dying moments.
City could have gone on and secured the victory had it not been for the post, which they stuck twice in the last few minutes of the match. Sergio Aguero have given City an early lead after he took advantage of some poor defending from the home team. It was once again the defence that had to shoulder the blame for the equaliser, as some of the best defenders in the Arsenal team failed to pick up Demichelis from a corner. Arsenal had responded brilliantly in the second half with Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere scoring to put them in front.
The Premier League outfit will now turn their attention towards the Champions League. They take on Borussia Dortmund in the first group match. They were 1-0 winners against the German team in this away fixture last season. “It was a game of top quality and we did remarkably well to come back but then we gave a cheap goal away. The only disappointing thing for me is the way we conceded the second goal. We are an offensive team. We go forward a lot but we can improve defensively,” said Wenger. Arsenal also appeared to lose summer signing Mathieu Debuchy to a long-term injury. Wenger said that the injury certainly does not look good at the moment.
